چکیده

Splenosis is a common finding after traumatic rupture of the spleen or therapeutic splenectomy, defined as a heterotopic autotransplantation of the spleen in peritoneal cavity and surface. In splenectomized patients due to hematologic disease, splenosis can lead to disease recurrence. We present a case of splenosis in a patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura who relapsed after splenectomy. For its localization, conventional imaging and scintigraphy with Tc-denatured red cells were performed, and at least five splenic foci were observed. Given the difficult intraoperative localization of these nodules, radioguided surgery was performed, with excellent localization and removal of all known nodules and multiple peritoneal implants of millimeter size that were not previously observed. We conclude that radioguided surgery is an excellent tool for locating foci of peritoneal splenosis, which have difficult access, thus avoiding early recurrence of the disease. © 2013 Elsevier España, S.L. and SEMNIM. Abdominal Splenosis: An Unusual Cause of Bowel Obstruction in a 7-Year-Old Child

Splenosis is a rare condition defined as a heterotopic auto-transplantation of splenic tissue, typically after blunt abdominal trauma. It can occur anywhere in the abdominal cavity, or even the chest. Splenosis found in clinical practice is relatively rare because most patients are asymptomatic. We report a rare case of abdominal splenosis in a 7-year-old boy, 3 years after an abdominal blunt t...

Feasibility of portable gamma camera imaging in intraoperative radioguided parathyroid adenoma identification

Novel surgical applications include radioguided procedures in parathyroidectomy operations. In order to investigate the feasibility of usage of the portable gamma camera in parathyroidectomy operations; intraoperative radioguided parathyroidectomy operation was performed in three hyperparathyroidism patients with inconclusive preoperative parathyroid scintigraphy results. Intraoperative portabl...

Introduction: Nipple discharge is the third most common complaint of the breast diseases following the breast mass and the breast pain. The majority of the lesions causing pathological nipple discharge (PND) consist of non-palpable breast lesions (NPBLs). When non-operative diagnostic tools are inadequate to distinguish the diagnosis, the pathological duct should be removed to ...

Isolated Hepatic Splenosis: First Reported Case

Splenosis is the autotransplantation of splenic tissue, most commonly seen after traumatic splenic rupture and splenectomy. Post-traumatic splenosis is often considered a rare entity, but is probably underreported because of its asymptomatic nature. We describe the first reported case of splenosis presenting as a liver mass, indistinguishable from a liver tumor by standard preoperative evaluati...
